The events that move markets, as they happen: wars and geopolitical crises, trade measures, central bank decisions, macro surprises, market shocks and energy disruptions — including satellite thermal anomalies at key oil facilities. Every event is checked across independent sources and read through the markets it moves: oil, gold, the dollar, indices, currencies and yields.

How the desk works

Geopolitics, Macro and Markets desks. The desk follows the Middle East, the Russia–Ukraine war, China–Taiwan, North Korea, coups and states of emergency, and new tariffs or export controls; rate decisions of the Fed, ECB, Bank of Japan and Bank of England; surprises in US jobs, inflation and growth data; and sharp equity sell-offs or banking stress. Each event is shown with the markets it moves.

Energy desk. The desk watches 25 key oil facilities — Gulf export terminals, Russian ports and refineries, Libya, Nigeria, Turkey, India and the US Gulf Coast — through NASA FIRMS satellite fire data, compared with each site's own recent baseline so that routine flaring is ignored. It also tracks the Strait of Hormuz, the Red Sea, Suez, the Turkish Straits, Russian oil ports and Libya through global news event data, counting how many independent outlets report the same disruption, and follows OPEC+ output decisions, new sanctions on Russian, Iranian and Venezuelan oil, and strikes on Russian energy infrastructure. A headline only counts when it reports a decision or event that has happened, not speculation.

Reliability: High two independent kinds of source agree (satellite and news) or many independent outlets report the same event. Medium one kind of source only, reviewed by the desk before publication. Single-source reports are never published.

Educational content only. Events are compiled algorithmically from public data (NASA FIRMS, GDELT, news aggregators) and may be incomplete or later revised; a thermal anomaly is not by itself proof of an attack or outage. Market levels are calculated by the XenosFinance engine. This page does not constitute investment advice or a recommendation to buy or sell any financial instrument.
